Driven by Data
Cybercom’s Data Driven Services brings data into a business story. With the help of knowledge, experience, and technology our data team builds businesses a competitive advantage using data.
Meet Tomi Asp, Lotta Mattila, Tarmo Pajunen and Mikko Kursula, who are the talents working to utilize data for our clients.
How did you end up working with data and what is the most interesting aspect in it?
Tomi, Data, IoT and Cloud Solutions Architect: In 2017 I was hired by Cybercom to work with the Internet of Things. I got more and more into data and I joined the Data Driven Services team from the beginning. I like how data can be the key to the problem. It’s like detective work: data can give you the answers if you ask the right questions.
Lotta, BI Analyst: My background is in business, but I realized early that instead of just selling, I like to analyze numbers. I aim to make reports that answer questions that end-user did not even think to ask. Data is the ground of everything and that is why it’s important to understand it – otherwise you’ll create false statistics.
Tarmo, Advisory Consultant, Head of Digital Transformation offering: I’ve gone a long way from full-on coding to digital transformation advisor. Data is in the core when we develop business. Companies have a huge amount of data and our job is to find out which of it is useful to them.
Mikko, Data Scientist: I had 20 years of experience with technology before I started working in Cybercom in 2019 and got interested in data science. I was lucky to find a job where the full picture is important: what kind of things we can find from data and how to do business with it? Data is not just numbers, it’s part of the whole business story.

Describe your work tasks, what do you do in our client project?
Tomi: I do everything from sales to execution. I communicate a lot with our customers, trying to find the problem and the solution. Even though I plan a lot, I’m also hands on in the projects because I like to code.
Lotta: I’m new to Cybercom but I already have two projects. I build and release reports that the client needs and teach how to update them. I’m looking forward to all the future projects our team will have.
Tarmo: As an advisor my job is to sit down with customer’s management and think how they can leverage digital solutions in their business. I’m doing management consulting, but I also have strong understanding of the technical side, like data systems. Part of my work is to lead Cybercom’s digital transformation. We think how businesses must change in order to survive in the digital world.
Mikko: My work is mainly coding. I look into data and create visualizations. I’m in 2-3 big projects simultaneously with a small team. We work intensively and fast to create different solutions for customer to see. I like it because then I can constantly get affirmation that we are doing the right things.
To summarize, I think what we all have in common is divergent thinking. We look for all the possible solutions even outside the problem area. We know how to take a step back, think outside the box and keep our minds open.
Tomi Asp, is like a Swiss Army Knife, professional in many area, mainly in Data, IoT and Cloud Solutions architecture.
From your perspective, what is your biggest asset, skill and vision that you bring to the table to help the whole Data Driven services team to succeed?
Tomi: I can effectively work between the customer and the technical side because I understand both.
Mikko: Same here. And with my vast working experience from different fields of technology it’s easy for me to see patterns and phenomenon.
Tarmo: I can show the customers and the team what’s the meaning behind individual projects. We have big strategic goals to go from traditional business to new fields of business.
Lotta: I’m skilled at reporting and visualization. I also keep good dialogue with our customers about their hopes and wishes.

Cybercom means diversity both with our customers and our talents. We work with amazing companies from both public and private sectors, and Cybercom’s employees are some of the best ones in the country. Each of us have a meaning and we make a difference.
