Meet Victoria, a Digital Sustainability Advisor

Victoria Jonsson loves to work with global issues and to make a real change with her work.

How did you become a Maker?

I have always had very broad interests and been a keen problem solver. I took a Masters degree in Sustainability with a focus on innovation after my first degree in business and German. What I noticed when I started working with sustainability, is that everyone talked about being environmentally friendly and changing the world, but very few companies were really putting themselves out there. That is why I started looking into the technology industry, and more specifically machine learning, to find people who had the same vision as me, and to create solutions that could solve big societal and environmental issues. Some years later, I stumbled across Cybercom and quickly got interested in the quite unusual mix of technical expertise, innovation, business acumen, and strong focus on sustainability. The more people I met from Cybercom, the more convinced I became that this was a good place to be. The rest is history.

Would you like to tell us about a project where you really acted as a Maker?

A lot of the projects that I am in right now are about making people’s life better, and that is what being a Maker is all about. It is almost difficult to think of projects where I have not worked on solutions for a better tomorrow. I work with everything from how to entirely digitalize applications for municipalities, to how one can work with digital solutions in foreign aid and how to gamify regional service offerings. I get to work with people that are extremely interested and competent in their subjects. It is fantastic to see how far we have come, and can come, by using digital solutions for creating a better world. It is also very cool to see that we can create a better tomorrow not only for people in Europe and North America, but globally.

How would you describe your dream project?

I think that I am starting on some of them this year! I love to work on solutions that have the potential for global impact. I want to do more than work with how to get more customers to use a certain product or service. We need to have greater visions. We are about to start a project helping to identify key digital opportunities that can be game changers in making lives better in one of the least developed countries in the world. This will give us the opportunity to work with people based locally, to understand their reality, as well as inspiring them with other solutions around the globe. This is going to be an eye-opening project, with some really difficult issues and exciting possibilities!

What is a Maker to you?

A Maker is curious, willing to challenge themselves and others, and does not believe in the status quo. A Maker of tomorrow wants to make real change! They do not only try to make things incrementally a little better, but look for something that really changes the rules of the game. You do not have to be a creative whizz, but you need to have the mindset that how things are now is not good enough. To tell yourself that “this can get even better; I am not satisfied yet” is the cornerstone of a creative mind.
